French rider Fabio Quartararo did not hide his frustration and determination in a recent interview with Pol Espargaró on DAZN’s “Pol Position” show. With three consecutive pole positions but failing to convert them into victories, the former world champion made it clear that his future with the Japanese brand depends on the results of the coming years.

‘I strongly believe in this project, but if it doesn’t work, I will leave for one that is already competitive,’ Quartararo stated categorically, quoted on Motosan. ‘This is very clear, I don’t have time anymore, I want to go somewhere where the bike is competitive from the start.’

The 2024 season has been marked by ups and downs for the Frenchman, who secured three consecutive pole positions in Jerez, Le Mans, and Silverstone but failed to translate these prime positions into victories. Quartararo explained that his approach changed since Qatar: ‘Really, since Qatar, we have tried not to make too many changes to the bike. In the first three races, we were looking for something we didn’t have.’

The rider also revealed details about Yamaha’s technical development, mentioning that ‘in the Misano tests, we didn’t test any engine. We tested it in Jerez, and we will test another one after Aragón.’ This phased development strategy reflects the Japanese brand’s caution in implementing changes.

Despite the difficulties, Quartararo remains optimistic about Yamaha’s project, particularly aiming for the 2027 regulations. However, he issued a warning: if the project does not succeed, he will not hesitate to seek alternatives that allow him to return to the top of the competition.
