Kay de Wolf was the winner of the MXGP of Spain in the MX2 Motocross World Championship. A result that seemed in jeopardy at the start of the second race in Lugo, where he was down in 15th place.

Thibault Benistant (Monster Energy Yamaha) got the holeshot in the first race and led the opening lap, but on the second, de Wolf (Nestaan Husqvarna) moved into the lead and never gave up the position.

While the Dutchman pulled away, Benistant would later lose his position to Liam Everts (Red Bull KTM). The Belgian stayed close to the leader, but de Wolf sealed the win with a margin of 1.638s. Without the pace to match the top two, Benistant finished third, over 15 seconds behind the winner.

The holeshot in the second race went to Sacha Coenen (Red Bull KTM), who then led for more than half the race… until he couldn’t hold off Andrea Adamo (Red Bull KTM).

The Italian made the decisive overtake on lap 12, but always had his teammates and rivals close behind: Coenen finished second, 2.191s adrift, and Simon Längenfelder ended up third, 3.808s back. De Wolf completed the first lap in 15th, but launched an impressive comeback to finish fourth.

With that, the championship leader secured victory in the MXGP of Spain in MX2 with 43 points, two more than Adamo. Coenen completed the podium with the same 37 points as Everts.
