Last weekend, the MXGP of Latvia took place, and the highlights of the main category were Jeffrey Herlings, who took a double victory.

In the MX2 category, the victory was shared by Sacha Coenen, who took the first race, while in the second race the highlight was Kay de Wolf.

Herlings showed once again that when in good shape and physical condition, he is a real “terror” for the competition, and not even the championship leaders had the pace to beat the KTM rider.

As usual, the championship organizers have compiled a video of the best moments, which you can see in the video below:

Belgian KTM rider benefits from teammate’s crash on final lap to celebrate third career triumph

Sacha Coenen finally converted his impressive speed into a Grand Prix victory in 2025, claiming his third career triumph at the MXGP of Latvia in a race marked by final lap drama that cost Simon Längenfelder a victory that seemed guaranteed. The Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Belgian rider dominated the weekend at Kegums, showing devastating pace that consistently placed him at the top of practice times.

The first moto set the tone for an exciting weekend, with Coenen securing another holeshot – his eighth of the season – ahead of Längenfelder, Liam Everts, and Kay de Wolf. Spanish rider Oriol Oliver created some initial confusion by overtaking both De Wolf and Mathis Valin on the first full lap, but a crash in a deep corner relegated him to eighth place. The highlight was local rider Karlis Reisulis, who thrilled Latvian fans with a brave overtake on Quentin Prugnières to take fifth place.

The race remained relatively stable until the final lap, when Camden McLellan broke Latvian hearts by overtaking Reisulis in front of the packed grandstands. Simultaneously, Kay de Wolf lost seventh position to Thibault Benistant also on the final lap, while Guillem Farres completed a good recovery to ninth place. Coenen controlled the race from start to finish, winning with a comfortable margin over Längenfelder.

In the second moto, Längenfelder secured the holeshot by the smallest margin over Coenen, but the German managed to create some initial advantage while an intense battle developed for the following positions between Benistant, Farres, De Wolf, and Everts. The decisive moment came when De Wolf managed to overtake Coenen for second place on lap 14, with just two minutes remaining, putting himself in an excellent position to fight for the overall victory.

The final drama arrived when Längenfelder, who was leading comfortably, got cross-rutted in the waves on his final lap through the track, going off-track and crashing into the grass. Despite managing to return to the race precisely when Coenen overtook him, the crash allowed De Wolf to claim his first moto victory since Lugo nearly a month ago. This incident cost Längenfelder the overall victory, but the German consoled himself with second overall and strengthening his championship lead to 27 points over Andrea Adamo.

In MX2, the highlight of the day ended up being Andrea Adamo, who won another round overall, and in MXGP this dominance was even more evident.

Jeffrey Herlings and Lucas Coenen, two different generations of riders, each won a heat in the MXGP, with the former world champion finishing as the overall winner.

Andrea Adamo strengthened his MX2 title charge with another Grand Prix win at Teutschenthal. The Italian Red Bull KTM rider went 1st in moto one and 3rd in the second race, securing the overall win and retaking the red plate as series leader.

Riding with intelligence and composure, Adamo passed Lucas Coenen in the final laps of race one, and then managed the difficult conditions in the rain-soaked second moto with maturity to seal the top step of the podium.

‘I did two smart races,’ said Adamo. ‘When I passed Sacha in the first moto I didn’t push to open a big gap because it was easy to make a mistake on this track. It was difficult and tight.’

On the second moto, he explained: ‘If you don’t holeshot in these mud races, you have more to lose than gain. I was in P4 and when I was getting closer to Kay [De Wolf], I was getting filled with mud, so I held back. Then Sacha made a mistake and I went to P3.’

Now back in control of the championship, Adamo remains cautious: ‘Like I said in Ernee, the championship is long. The red plate is nice – and the mechanics will put it on the bike – but it’s not important. There are still many fast guys and we’ll keep focused.’

The MXGP World Championship held another round last weekend, with the MXGP and MX2 categories thrilling fans in France. While there was a single winner in MX2, the situation was somewhat different in MXGP.

Simon Laengenfelder was the standout performer in MX2, with the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider winning both races, while in MXGP there were two different winners: Lucas Coenen was the fastest in the first race, while Romain Febvre won the second.

And while Laengenfelder won both races by a margin over his closest competitors, the same did not happen in MXGP: 3.978s separated Coenen from Febvre in the first race, but if this difference illustrates the greater balance that existed, then there are few adjectives to describe what happened in the second race, with 0.574s separating Febvre from Coenen!

Simon Längenfelder dominated Sunday’s MXGP of France in the MX2 Motocross World Championship. He claimed two clear wins in Sunday’s races in Ernée.

The holeshot in the first race went to Längenfelder (Red Bull KTM), marking the start of a superlative performance in which he already had about a ten-second lead midway through the race. He also benefited from a crash by championship leader Kay de Wolf (Nestaan Husqvarna), who was his main chaser.

Until the end, Längenfelder pulled even further ahead, crossing the line 23.197s in front of Andrea Adamo (Red Bull KTM). Valerio Lata (Honda HRC) came out on top in the battle for third place, beating Oriol Oliver (Gabriel SS24 KTM). Mathis Valin (Kawasaki) completed the top five.

Once again, Längenfelder took the holeshot in the second race, while de Wolf crashed on the first lap and thus fell behind. Thibault Benistant (Monster Energy Yamaha) moved into second on lap 2, overtaking Adamo and Sacha Coenen (Red Bull KTM).

But Adamo would recover second place to become Längenfelder’s main challenger. The German came under pressure, but in the final minutes pulled away to score another win in Ernée with a 10.554s lead. Adamo finished second and Benistant crossed the line in third, followed by Coenen. De Wolf recovered to 12th.

With the maximum 50 points scored, Längenfelder was the winner of this round, with Adamo second just six points behind. Coenen secured the final podium spot with 33 points, just one more than Oriol.

Thibault Benistant (Monster Energy Yamaha) finished fourth, and Valerio Lata (Honda HRC) came home in fifth. Kay de Wolf (Nestaan Husqvarna) was only 18th on the first lap, but the championship leader managed to fight back to eighth – a position he reached on the final lap.

Kay de Wolf was the winner of the MXGP of Spain in the MX2 Motocross World Championship. A result that seemed in jeopardy at the start of the second race in Lugo, where he was down in 15th place.

Thibault Benistant (Monster Energy Yamaha) got the holeshot in the first race and led the opening lap, but on the second, de Wolf (Nestaan Husqvarna) moved into the lead and never gave up the position.

While the Dutchman pulled away, Benistant would later lose his position to Liam Everts (Red Bull KTM). The Belgian stayed close to the leader, but de Wolf sealed the win with a margin of 1.638s. Without the pace to match the top two, Benistant finished third, over 15 seconds behind the winner.

The holeshot in the second race went to Sacha Coenen (Red Bull KTM), who then led for more than half the race… until he couldn’t hold off Andrea Adamo (Red Bull KTM).

The Italian made the decisive overtake on lap 12, but always had his teammates and rivals close behind: Coenen finished second, 2.191s adrift, and Simon Längenfelder ended up third, 3.808s back. De Wolf completed the first lap in 15th, but launched an impressive comeback to finish fourth.

With that, the championship leader secured victory in the MXGP of Spain in MX2 with 43 points, two more than Adamo. Coenen completed the podium with the same 37 points as Everts.
