Jett Lawrence secured overall victory in the 450MX class dominated the 250MX division on a day marked by extreme weather conditions that forced the interruption of the second main moto due to thunder and lightning at High Point Raceway.

Mt. Morris, Pennsylvania – High Point Raceway hosted a dramatic AMA Pro Motocross round, with adverse weather conditions decisively shaping the competition results.

First Moto Full of Plot Twists

Jett Lawrence grabbed the holeshot in the 450MX first moto, ahead of Aaron Plessinger, Eli Tomac, Justin Cooper, Jorge Prado, and Joey Savatgy. However, Cooper momentarily jumped into the lead coming down the rollers in a bold move that energised the crowd.

Lawrence quickly regained his position and began opening a gap, but a mechanical error on the start straight—apparently a stalled engine—cost him precious seconds. This setback allowed Plessinger to take the lead, sparking an eruption of enthusiasm from the grandstands, while Hunter Lawrence, Jett’s brother, moved into second place.

Jett Lawrence didn’t give up and managed to recover to second position behind his brother. Justin Cooper held fourth, followed by Eli Tomac. Jorge Prado faced significant technical difficulties during the race, losing ground in his battle with RJ Hampshire and dropping to 12th place, more than half a lap behind.

In the end, Jett Lawrence reclaimed the lead while Hunter Lawrence passed Plessinger in the closing moments. Cooper withstood pressure from Tomac to maintain fourth position, with Hampshire finishing sixth. Jason Anderson secured a solid seventh place, with Joey Savatgy, Cooper Webb, and Coty Schock completing the top ten.

Malcolm Stewart suffered a spectacular crash early in the race, taking a handlebar hit to the chin in a nasty incident that forced his retirement.

Second Moto Interrupted by Extreme Weather Conditions

The second moto brought meteorological drama when Eli Tomac jumped to the lead precisely as rain began falling. Tomac led ahead of Hunter Lawrence, Aaron Plessinger, and Justin Cooper, with Jett Lawrence in seventh place.

Conditions deteriorated rapidly. Plessinger was forced to discard his goggles due to rain, making a pit stop for replacement. The rain intensified progressively, alternating between lighter periods and torrential downpours.

The appearance of thunder and lightning in the vicinity of the circuit forced officials to stop the race with seven minutes remaining on the clock. Tomac was credited with the moto win, but combined results (1-3) gave Jett Lawrence the overall victory, followed by Hunter Lawrence (2-2) and Tomac (5-1) in third.

Moments after riders left the track, torrential rain began falling, validating the officials’ decision. This was the first race stopped due to weather conditions since the 2019 Thunder Valley National.

Jett Lawrence claims another 1-1 finish in 450 class at AMA Pro Motocross

Jett Lawrence once again confirmed his supremacy in the 450 class of AMA Pro Motocross, securing his fourth victory in five races this season at Thunder Valley Motocross Park in Colorado. The Australian rider showed tremendous determination as he withstood pressure from competitors throughout the first moto in one of the most exciting battles of the season.

In the first moto, Hunter Lawrence, Aaron Plessinger, Jett Lawrence, Eli Tomac, and Justin Cooper were the first five riders through the opening turns. Jett Lawrence quickly took the lead, but the top four maintained an intense battle throughout the entire race. Midway through the moto, Jett had built a three-second lead and appeared to be pulling away, but Plessinger held a comfortable second place until he came under pressure from Hunter Lawrence.

The drama intensified when Hunter Lawrence passed Plessinger and went after his younger brother for the lead. Jett managed to resist his older brother’s charge, but suddenly Plessinger came from nowhere and briefly took the race lead. However, Jett Lawrence quickly regained first place and managed to create breathing room only on the final lap, securing the moto victory with a 3.3-second margin over Plessinger, who finished second.

Eli Tomac completed the first moto podium in third place, benefiting from Hunter Lawrence’s spectacular crash on the final lap while running alone in third position. This was the first time we saw Jett Lawrence having to battle for an entire moto, get passed, fight back for the lead, slow down, hit the gas again, and get enough breathing room to take the race win.

In the second moto, Jett Lawrence again showed his class by claiming another victory, thus securing his 18th win in 19 career starts. With this perfect 1-1 result, Jett Lawrence climbed to the top step of the overall podium, followed by Eli Tomac and Aaron Plessinger, while Justin Cooper and Hunter Lawrence completed the overall top five.

The Pro Motocross Championship roared into Colorado’s Thunder Valley Motocross Park for Race 3 of the 2025 season, marking the first time the event has left California this summer. The high-altitude track provided a thrilling backdrop for the competition, set amidst a period of heavy rainfall in the region.

Despite facing fierce competition, Lawrence showcased his prowess by clinching a remarkable 1-1 sweep, marking his third consecutive win of the season.

Reflecting on his performance, Lawrence attributed his success to hard work and patience, stating, “[Today] was a combination of working hard and being patient.” He outshone rivals like Justin Cooper and Eli Tomac, capitalizing on their mistakes while maintaining a steady pace on the challenging track. Tomac secured the second spot overall, with Aaron Plessinger rounding out the podium.

In the 250 Class, it was a dominant display by Team Honda HRC Progressive’s Chance Hymas, who secured a flawless 1-1 performance, leading the pack from start to finish in both motos.

In the second round of AMA Pro Motocross at Hangtown, Eli Tomac won the first moto after an epic battle with Aaron Plessinger, marking his return to victory since 2022. Plessinger led comfortably until the final sectors of the race.

Tomac struck at the decisive moment and held the lead to the checkered flag. Plessinger finished second, followed by Jett Lawrence, Justin Cooper and Hunter Lawrence. Expectations were high for Tomac to repeat the feat in the second moto.

The second moto was a nightmare for Tomac, who had a terrible start and was practically last. Jett Lawrence quickly took the lead and controlled the entire race, while Tomac fought to recover positions through the pack.

Tomac crashed while running in eighth place, finishing only ninth. Lawrence won by a large margin, with Cooper second and Plessinger third. Lawrence thus secured the overall victory, while Tomac lost a golden opportunity.

Eli Tomac wins first moto but poor second moto start costs him overall victory

The 450MX class provided drama and excitement at the second round of AMA Pro Motocross at Hangtown, with Eli Tomac returning to victory in the first moto for the first time since 2022, but Jett Lawrence responding categorically in the second moto to claim the overall victory.

First Moto

The first 450MX moto started with Justin Cooper grabbing the holeshot, but Aaron Plessinger quickly took the race lead. The KTM 450 SX-F rider seemed headed for an almost perfect victory, pulling away from the pack in an impressive display.

Eli Tomac passed his teammate Cooper to take second place, but initially seemed unable to reduce Plessinger’s advantage. Jett Lawrence also managed to pass Cooper for third, but for the first time in a 450MX moto, the Australian seemed unable to catch Tomac ahead of him – a task that, admittedly, is far from easy.

The decisive moment came when the two-lap board was shown. Everyone knew that if Plessinger and Tomac were close at that point, Tomac would strike. And that’s exactly what happened. Tomac took the lead and held it to the chequered flag, claiming his first Pro Motocross moto victory since the 2022 season finale.

The first moto classification was completed with Plessinger in second place, followed by J. Lawrence, while Cooper and Hunter Lawrence completed the top five. RJ Hampshire (sixth) and Cooper Webb (seventh) achieved solid results, with Malcolm Stewart, Jason Anderson, and Joey Savatgy completing the top ten, respectively.

With Tomac having won six of the seven second motos he had contested at Hangtown throughout his career, expectations were high for a possible 1-1 victory that would give him his first overall win of the season.

Second Moto

The day’s final moto began with Cooper Webb grabbing the holeshot, but Jett Lawrence quickly took the lead. For Eli Tomac, however, the nightmare began right at the start – the rider had a horrible start and found himself virtually in last place.

Lawrence controlled the race from the beginning, leaving Tomac with the herculean task of recovering through the pack. Tomac seemed up to the challenge and was literally flying around the track, but while running in eighth place, he crashed alone in a fall that involved no one else. He managed to get back up and continued fighting, finishing the moto in ninth place.

Aaron Plessinger was running sixth early on but began making significant progress. He charged to fourth place, where he engaged in a great battle with Hunter Lawrence. He managed to get the better of Lawrence for third place, but that was as far as he could get. Justin Cooper was having a fantastic race in second place and for Plessinger to catch him would have required superhuman skill.

Jett Lawrence rode to an uncontested victory, with Cooper and Plessinger completing the moto podium.

Reigning 450MX champion Chase Sexton will be absent from the second round of the 2025 AMA Pro Motocross Championship, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing has officially confirmed. The American rider continues his recovery following a crash sustained during the season opener at Pala, California.

Sexton had showcased promising form at Fox Raceway, securing the second-fastest qualifying time aboard his KTM 450 SX-F Factory Edition. However, an early tumble during the opening moto brought his weekend to an abrupt and disappointing conclusion.

‘I’m definitely banged up after last weekend’s crash but thankfully there’s nothing broken so that’s a positive’, Sexton stated candidly. ‘I’ve made the decision to sit out this weekend’s race and focus on getting back to 100%. I appreciate all the support from my team, fans, and everyone who’s reached out. Best of luck to my KTM teammates this weekend’.

Team Manager Ian Harrison expressed regret over the champion’s absence from the upcoming Hangtown round. ‘It is unfortunate to announce that Chase will be sitting out this weekend for the second round of Pro Motocross at Hangtown’, Harrison explained. ‘He came off a great 2025 Supercross season and showed phenomenal speed and strength at the opening round of Pro Motocross. Unfortunately, he took a hard hit in the first moto which sidelined him for moto two’.

Harrison emphasised the team’s commitment to rider welfare, stating: ‘After feeling the aftereffects of that crash, Chase has made the decision, with the support from the team, to sit out this weekend’s race. The health and safety of our athletes is the number one priority at Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, and we want to ensure that Chase is back to 100% before returning to the bike and the track’.

The defending champion’s absence presents a significant setback for the Austrian manufacturer, which must now rely on its remaining riders to carry the team’s hopes at Hangtown whilst awaiting the return of their star performer to competitive action.

Jett Lawrence kicked off the AMA Pro Motocross season in the best way possible, by dominating the opening round in the premier class (450 MX) held this Saturday at Fox Raceway in Pala, California.

In the combined qualifying sessions, the fastest was Jett Lawrence (Team Honda HRC Progressive), who beat Chase Sexton (Red Bull KTM) by a clear 1.254s, followed by Eli Tomac (Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing) at 1.607s and Justin Cooper (Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing), already over two seconds behind.

In the first moto, Jett and Hunter Lawrence exited the first corner side by side at the front, with Jett taking the holeshot while his brother and teammate was overtaken by Cooper. Sexton had a tough start, and things didn’t improve, eventually retiring on the sixth lap.

Beyond that, nothing changed at the front, with Jett Lawrence taking the win with more than ten seconds over Cooper, while Hunter Lawrence finished third. Tomac and Aaron Plessinger (Red Bull KTM) rounded out the top five.

Hunter Lawrence grabbed the holeshot in the second moto but was quickly passed by Jett Lawrence and Plessinger, before reclaiming second from Plessinger. He was then overtaken by Tomac… who, within the first five minutes, also passed Hunter Lawrence to move into second.

After that, the Yamaha rider began pressuring Jett Lawrence, but the leader held firm and even managed to pull away, capitalizing on a small mistake from his rival near the final ten minutes. Tomac secured second, almost 12 seconds behind, with Plessinger beating Hunter Lawrence for third. Jason Anderson (Monster Energy Kawasaki) finished fifth.

In the overall results, Jett Lawrence was the big winner with a double victory and 50 points, with Tomac second on 40 points. The podium was completed by Hunter Lawrence with 38 points, just one more than Plessinger.

Speaking to Alex Hofmann on ServusTV, Roczen commented: ‘I have been racing professionally in motocross for over 15 years, and this is my first time at MotoGP. You can’t really believe that. We raced in Seattle – for me, Austin/Texas is exactly halfway home. So I thought, why not come to MotoGP here?’.

Supercross champion Jett Lawrence and his brother Hunter Lawrence have announced the end of their collaboration with long-time agent Lucas Mirtl after disturbing findings of alleged ‘misappropriation of funds’.

The decision was made public through a statement released yesterday (January 23) by North American motocross journalist Lewis Phillips. In the statement, the brothers revealed that the suspicions arose recently and that the situation is already under investigation.

Here is the statement from the Lawrence brothers: ‘Over the last two weeks we became suspicious of potentially fraudulent activity related to one of our business accounts. Following an initial investigation, we became aware of and in possession of evidence of misuse and misappropriation of our personal funds by our agent Lucas Mirtl for his benefit and as of 9:00 AM EST this morning we have fired him’.

And continues: ‘Further, Wasserman [the agency for which Mirtl worked and to which both Lawrence brothers are signed] has fired him as well and we will continue our investigation and turn over all findings to the relevant authorities shortly. Wasserman will continue to represent us with Jacob Hayes and Travis Clarke taking over management duties’.

Lucas Mirtl played a crucial role in the Lawrence brothers’ careers, being responsible for their move from the European MXGP circuits to the United States in 2019. Under his management, Jett and Hunter Lawrence won important titles in the AMA Supercross 250SX and 250MX Pro Motocross categories, establishing themselves as two of the biggest names in world motocross.

Jett Lawrence’s rise has been particularly notable. In 2023, he became the third rider in history to win all races in an AMA Pro Motocross season and was the first rookie since Jeremy McGrath, in 1993, to win the main class title in the AMA Supercross.

The separation from Mirtl occurs at a time when the Lawrence brothers are at the peak of their sporting careers. Although Wasserman continues to manage their careers, with Jacob Hayes and Travis Clarke taking over responsibilities, the impact of this scandal raises questions about trust and security in the world of business negotiations in sports.

To date, neither Lucas Mirtl nor Wasserman’s legal representatives have issued any further comments on the allegations or the details of the ongoing investigation.

Motocross fans and the sports community are now eagerly awaiting the outcome of this situation, as Jett and Hunter Lawrence seek to maintain their focus on their careers and competitive future.
