Haiden Deegan completely dominated the AMA 250MX on a day marked by extreme weather conditions that forced the interruption of the second main heat due to thunder and lightning at High Point Raceway.

First Moto: Display of Strength

Nate Thrasher grabbed the holeshot in the 250MX class, but Haiden Deegan quickly took command and led wire-to-wire. The Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki duo of Seth Hammaker and Levi Kitchen engaged in an intense battle for second place, with Kitchen getting the better of his teammate.

Jo Shimoda faced early difficulties after a crash, forcing a comeback from positions outside the top ten. Deegan controlled the race comfortably, securing a convincing victory, with Kitchen and Hammaker completing the podium.

Second Moto: Drama and Injuries

Deegan again took the lead in the second moto, forming a front trio with numbers 1, 10, and 16. Casey Cochran occupied fourth position, followed by Jo Shimoda.

Julien Beaumer suffered a serious crash on the jump before the mechanics’ area, ending his moto prematurely. Levi Kitchen found himself outside the top 15 after catching the rear wheel of a competitor.

Positions changed constantly, with Shimoda making several passes before a crash in the back section of the circuit cost him positions. Garrett Marchbanks stood out by passing teammates Kitchen and Hammaker, subsequently ascending to fourth position.

On the final lap, Chance Hymas suffered a crash that significantly altered the overall podium. The rider went straight to the Honda HRC Progressive truck, requiring assistance to move around, pointing to his right knee in visible pain.

Deegan secured a dominant victory with 1-1 results, followed by Tom Vialle (4-2) and Kitchen (2-6). Hymas, despite his final-lap crash, maintained fourth overall with 5-3 results.

Yamaha rider claims dominant 1-1 finish at Thunder Valley after missing second moto at previous round

Chance Hymas staged a triumphant return to AMA Pro Motocross in the 250 class, securing a dominant 1-1 victory at Thunder Valley Motocross Park in Colorado. The Yamaha rider, who was unable to participate in the second moto of the previous round due to food poisoning, showed he was fully recovered by setting a devastating pace in both motos.

In the first 250 class moto, Hymas grabbed the holeshot ahead of Tom Vialle, Haiden Deegan, and Mikkel Haarup. The Yamaha rider quickly opened a two-second lead at the front, while Deegan passed Vialle with a power move on the outside in the mechanics’ area. Vialle’s race became complicated when he was passed by both Haarup and Ty Masterpool, dropping from second to fourth place in just a few sections.

Hymas benefited from a mistake by Deegan that allowed him to extend his lead to over five seconds, and when his main rival began experiencing overheating issues with his YZ250F, the team advised Deegan to ease up and be gentle with the clutch. This situation allowed Hymas to open a crushing 34-second lead with three laps to go, crossing the finish line with a final margin of 45.677 seconds over Deegan – the largest gap recorded in any SMX race this season.

Garrett Marchbanks delivered an excellent recovery to finish third in the first moto after a poor start, nearly catching Deegan in the final meters. In the second moto, Hymas again grabbed the holeshot and controlled the race from start to finish, benefiting from a small tip-over by Deegan that gave him the space needed to manage his advantage to the checkered flag.

The overall 250 class podium was completed with Hymas in first position, Deegan in second, and Levi Kitchen in third, who benefited from his battle with Jo Shimoda for the final podium spot in the second moto. With this result, Hymas demonstrated that his health issue from the previous round is definitively behind him and that he remains one of the main title contenders in the 250 class.

In the first moto, Chance Hymas initially led but Casey Cochran took over after his rival crashed. Deegan started seventh and methodically worked his way past Cochran for the win. Jo Shimoda took second and Levi Kitchen took third.

The second moto was shortened to 25 minutes plus two laps. Lance Kobusch initially led but Deegan engaged him in an epic battle, trading positions several times in a pure display of motocross before pulling away for the win.

Deegan later revealed that he had become ill during the race, feeling his throat closing up. Jo Shimoda took second place again, showing exemplary consistency. Tom Vialle recovered from a first moto DNF to finish eighth in the second.

The second round of the AMA Pro Motocross championship at Hangtown confirmed Haiden Deegan’s absolute dominance in the 250MX class, with the young rider adding two more victories to his tally, extending his consecutive moto wins to three this season.

First Moto:

The first moto started with Chance Hymas shooting to the early lead, but a track excursion on a hill climb allowed Casey Cochran to take command of the race. Cochran, competing in only his third moto of the season after missing all of supercross due to a broken leg suffered in November, showed impressive determination by leading several laps.

The early stages were marked by an incident involving Tom Vialle and Ryder DiFrancesco, with the GasGas rider collecting DiFrancesco’s rear end after his own crash. Vialle would eventually pull off, scoring 40th place.

Haiden Deegan, who had started around seventh, methodically began his march forward. After reaching a podium position, the rider wasn’t satisfied and continued climbing through the field until he passed Cochran for the lead. From there, Deegan controlled the race to the chequered flag, claiming another victory.

Jo Shimoda maintained his impressive consistency by finishing second, 6.997 seconds behind Deegan, adding his third consecutive second-place finish of the season. Levi Kitchen completed the podium after a notable recovery, battling several Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki teammates in the process.

The first moto classification was completed with Ty Masterpool in fourth and Michael Mosiman in fifth in a very strong ride. Chance Hymas, who had several off-track excursions, finished only 13th, while Jeremy Martin saw his race end prematurely due to a crash, placing 34th.

Second Moto

The second moto, shortened from 30 to 25 minutes plus two laps, didn’t change the script for Haiden Deegan, although victory wasn’t handed to him on a silver platter. Casey Cochran again impressed with the holeshot, but it was Lance Kobusch who took the lead and held it for several laps.

Deegan, who hadn’t started among the leaders, again began his progression through the field. When he reached Kobusch, many expected him to pass easily, but the rider resisted bravely, providing one of the race’s finest spectacles. The two riders exchanged positions several times and even jumped side by side, in a pure display of motocross racing.

Eventually, Deegan managed to pull away for another uncontested victory, later revealing he had been ill during the race and felt his throat closing up during the moto – something that was noticeable in his voice after the race.

Jo Shimoda again demonstrated his class by claiming second place in this moto, after starting several positions back and having to pass several riders, including in an interesting battle involving Levi Kitchen and Casey Cochran. Cochran, who had ridden well early on, would eventually fade to 12th place.

Tom Vialle showed character by returning after retiring from the first moto, fighting his way to eighth place after a mediocre start.

The AMA Pro Motocross 250 season kicked off this Saturday, with Haiden Deegan dominating at Fox Raceway in Pala, California. The AMA Supercross 250 West champion won both main motos.

In combined qualifying, the fastest was actually Chance Hymas (Team Honda HRC Progressive), beating Deegan (Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing) by 1.640s, while Julien Beaumer (Red Bull KTM) set the third-fastest time.

Hymas’s strong performance continued with the holeshot in the first moto. He was pressured by Ty Masterpool (Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki) – who even led for a while – but around halfway through he fell while riding over a deeper rut. Despite a quick recovery, he lost positions to Beaumer and Deegan.

Deegan eventually overtook Beaumer and took the lead, managing the race to the end, while Beaumer dropped further back. Jo Shimoda (Team Honda HRC Progressive) claimed second, nearly seven seconds behind the winner, Hymas finished third, and Tom Vialle (Red Bull KTM) took fourth ahead of Beaumer.

In the second moto, Vialle grabbed the holeshot and led the early stages ahead of Beaumer, with Deegan in third. A mistake caused Vialle to lose the lead to Beaumer and, later, the Frenchman was also overtaken by Deegan.

With about 12 minutes to go, Deegan increased the pressure on Beaumer and eventually made the pass that secured him the victory. Shimoda followed suit shortly after, repeating his second place, just over five seconds behind the winner. Vialle also passed Beaumer, who thus finished fourth, ahead of Garrett Marchbanks (Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki).

With two race wins, Deegan secured the overall victory by scoring the maximum 50 points. Shimoda was second with 44 points, and Vialle completed the podium with 38 points – just two more than Hymas.

With the title already secured, all eyes were on the fight for second place, with Levi Kitchen the frontrunner but with Vialle within reach to try and take the position by storm, and things could hardly have gone better for the Frenchman: he won the first race and beat Kitchen, who was second, while Jordon Smith was third.RJ Hampshire and Ty Masterpool rounded off the top five respectively.

In the second race, the winner was the main figure of the year, who ended the season on a high note: Haiden Deegan. Chance Hymas was second and Hampshire third, while Vialle finished fourth and Ryder DiFrancesco finished fifth.

Kitchen saw bad luck knock on his door and crashed, handing second place definitively to Vialle, who ended the day with the most points, 43. Hymas and Hampshire both scored 38, with Deegan taking 36 and Smith 34.

The winner of the AMA Pro Motocross 250 has been found! Haiden Deegan secured championship victory after controlling events at the Budds Creek National, winning the first race and taking no risks in the second. Levi Kitchen scored the most points but had no arguments – in general – to counter his opponent.

The Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing rider went into this round with a 70-point lead over Kitchen -. when 100 were up for grabs in total (50 per round, 25 per race), and I knew I could seal the title right now.

And that’s exactly what happened! It was with great desire and speed that Deegan went on the attack in the first race at Budds Creek, securing the holeshot and leading all 17 laps of the circuit to immediately mathematically confirm the title in the category, and Kitchen, who finished third with More than 16 seconds of delay, nothing could prevent the opponent from seeing the party, he was even beaten by Tom Vialle, who achieved another podium in the current season – his 12th.

With the title already confirmed, Deegan took a calmer approach and the result was “secondary” in the second race. There Kitchen won, with Chance Hymas crossing the finish line in second with 3.771s and behind to #47, while Vialle finished on the podium again.

Deegan thus confirmed the title, he has 445 points in the classification, 62 more than Kitchen.

Vialle’s two podiums also ensured that the Frenchman is at least third in the championship, with the possibility of finishing second being a reality: Kitchen is “only” 14 points away.
