The Turkish rider benefited from the misfortune of the Italian championship leader to claim his first victory of the season, reducing the gap in the overall standings to 47 points.

Can Oncu (Yamaha BLU CRU Evan Bros Team) secured an unexpected victory in the second race of the Emilia-Romagna round at Misano, after Stefano Manzi crashed while leading the race. The Turk climbed to the top step of the podium ahead of Jaume Masia (Orelac Racing VerdNatura) and Valentin Debise (Renzi Corse).

The race began with an intense duel between Oncu and championship leader Manzi, both on Yamaha R1 machines. The Italian had managed to establish a slight advantage over his Turkish pursuer, but a mistake at turn 16 sealed the fate of his victory aspirations. Manzi lost control of his machine in a spectacular crash, allowing Oncu to inherit the race lead without opposition.

The race was subsequently stopped with a red flag after the violent crash of Kaito Toba (PETRONAS MIE Honda Racing Team) at turn 14. The Japanese rider suffered a spectacular highside that projected him over the handlebars, forcing officials to stop the race for safety reasons. As more than two-thirds of the scheduled distance had already been completed, the results were declared final.

This victory allows Oncu to significantly reduce his disadvantage in the championship, now closing to within 47 points of leader Manzi. The Italian’s crash represented a missed opportunity to further consolidate his commanding position in the title fight, at a time when the season enters its decisive phase.

Italian rider overcomes ferocious four-rider battle to claim his 14th career victory

Stefano Manzi (Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing) delivered one of the season’s most impressive recoveries in the Supersport World Championship, starting from tenth place on the grid to claim an epic victory in the first race of the Emilia-Romagna round at Misano. The Italian rider achieved his 50th podium in the category, joining an exclusive group of only three riders to reach this historic milestone, alongside Kenan Sofuoglu (85) and Jules Cluzel (63).

The race was marked by an intense battle at the top of the classification, with rookie Jaume Masia (Orelac Racing VerdNatura) managing a decisive overtake on the final lap to steal second place from Can Oncu (Yamaha BLU CRU Evan Bros Team), relegating the Turkish rider to the third step of the podium. For Masia, it represents his third career podium, while Oncu added his 20th podium in the category.

Spectacular comeback on opening lap

Manzi immediately demonstrated his intentions, climbing seven positions on the first lap to place himself in third place. Mid-race, on the fifth lap, Oncu executed an incisive manoeuvre to take the lead, overtaking Masia, with Manzi seizing the opportunity to also infiltrate, making slight contact with both rivals in a sequence of three bikes side-by-side that relegated Masia to third.

Once at the front, Manzi exhibited a true defensive masterclass, resisting multiple attacks from Oncu who tried incessantly to recover the lead. The Italian remained firm and consistent, always recovering the commanding position whenever he was overtaken.

Notable recoveries in the pack

Jeremy Alcoba (Kawasaki WorldSSP Team) and Lucas Mahias (GMT94-YAMAHA) delivered impressive recoveries, climbing respectively from 13th and 15th places on the grid to finish seventh and eighth. Tom Booth-Amos (PTR Triumph Factory Racing) completed the top-5, overtaking Marcel Schroetter in the final laps, after having maintained the pace of the front group for most of the race.

Philipp Oettl (Feel Racing WorldSSP Team) initially led the second group of riders and even managed to approach the podium fight on the eighth lap, but his pace dropped in the second half of the race, finishing in tenth place.

The race was interrupted by several crashes, including Kaito Toba (PETRONAS MIE Honda Racing) at turn 14, Filippo Farioli (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) at turn 5 on the sixth lap, and Aldi Mahendra (Yamaha BLU CRU Evan Bros Team) at turn 4 on the ninth lap.

Nicolo Bulega (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) delivered an extraordinary qualifying performance at the Misano World Circuit “Marco Simoncelli”, establishing a new absolute track record with a time of 1’31.618s. The Italian rider secured pole position with more than two tenths advantage over Toprak Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team), but his performance was overshadowed by an investigation for slow riding during Superpole.

The front row grid was completed with a historic surprise: Axel Bassani (bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team) claimed third place, giving the Italian manufacturer its first front row appearance since 1989, when Giancarlo Falappa and Mike Baldwin finished first and third at Pergusa. For Bassani, it also represents a return to the front row since Imola 2023.

Drama and Spectacle in Pole Position Battle

The session began with interruptions due to a yellow flag caused by Ryan Vickers’ (Motocorsa Racing) crash at Turn 4, but this didn’t prevent Bulega from immediately setting the pace with 1’32.109s on his first attempt, already two tenths faster than the previous track record.

The decisive moment came on the second attempt, when Razgatlioglu responded with an impressive 1’31.856s, placing himself more than two tenths ahead of Bulega. However, the Ducati rider saved the best for last, achieving a truly spectacular lap of 1’31.618s, reclaiming pole position at home with a comfortable margin.

Lowes Brothers Dominate Mid-Grid

Sam Lowes (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team) maintained his excellent qualifying form by securing fourth place as the second Ducati rider, finishing just half a tenth ahead of his twin brother Alex Lowes (bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team), who took fifth with 1’32.466s.

Remy Gardner (GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Team) claimed sixth position with 1’32.571s, leading Yamaha’s representation in a battle that has remained intense throughout the weekend.

Strong Italian Contingent in Top-10

Andrea Iannone (Team Pata GoEleven) finished seventh, but like Bulega, faces investigation for slow riding. The rider led an all-Italian third row, followed by Andrea Locatelli (Pata Maxus Yamaha) in eighth and Danilo Petrucci (Barni Spark Racing Team) in ninth. Yari Montella (Barni Spark Racing Team) completed the top-10, confirming his impressive season, especially at Misano.

Spanish youngster Jaume Masia achieved a significant career milestone by securing pole position in WorldSSP qualifying at Misano, while championship frontrunner Stefano Manzi endured a difficult session that saw him slip down the order.

Friday’s qualifying session unfolded under ideal conditions at the Italian venue, with Masia demonstrating superior pace throughout the 45-minute session. The Orelac Racing VerdNatura rider posted a benchmark time of 1’37.119s, marking his first pole position since his Moto3 campaign in 2023.

The front row was completed by Mattia Casadei, who delivered an impressive performance for Motozoo ME Air Racing in second place, followed by Dutch rider Bo Bendsneyder aboard his MV Agusta Reparto Corse machine. Casadei’s result represents a strong return to form following his recent comeback to the championship, while Bendsneyder showed renewed competitiveness after a challenging period.

Row two features Marcel Schroetter, who came tantalizingly close to front-row qualification, alongside Can Oncu, who emerged as the leading Yamaha representative in the session. Valentin Debise rounded out the top six with a remarkable recovery drive after spending much of the session struggling for pace.

The session’s most significant drama involved current championship leader Stefano Manzi, who crashed at turn 16 while pushing for an improved lap time. This setback dropped him to tenth place, a disappointing result at his home circuit where he had hoped to strengthen his championship position.

Multiple incidents punctuated the session, with crashes affecting Roberto Garcia, Luke Power, Aldi Mahendra, Lucas Mahias, and Yuki Okamoto, highlighting the challenges that Misano presents when riders push to the absolute limit.

Stefano Manzi set the fastest time in FP at Misano, counting towards the first WSSP session on Friday. In a session that saw a red flag after a brief incident involving Xavi Cardelús, who crashed alone, the Italian rider from Pata Yamaha Ten Kate Racing proved to be the fastest.

Note the red flag after Cardelús’ crash, fortunately without consequences for the rider:

Debise, Mahias Casadei, Oettl, Manzi, Bendsneyder, and Oncu were some of the first to lead the session in that order, with times gradually falling until the clock quickly began to drop below the 1m38s mark at Misano.

The first to achieve this was Debise on his Ducati Panigale V2, before Oncu beat him.

Manzi then followed on two occasions, improving on the time set by the Yamaha BLU CRU Evan Bros Team rider to become the fastest of the session. Jaume Masiá was 0.070s behind and finished second.

Harrison Voight joins EAB Racing for the rest of the 2025 season, after the Belgian team ended their collaboration with Loris Veneman in May and sought a new rider for WorldSSP.

The 19-year-old Australian was without a permanent seat after making a one-off substitution for D34G WorldSSP Racing Team at Phillip Island, where he replaced the injured Glenn van Straalen. Now, number 29 has an opportunity to show his worth in a team looking to complete the season with renewed ambitions.

Voight demonstrated promising qualities in his only appearance so far in the world championship, overcoming adversity in his home race. Despite suffering an unfortunate crash in the first race at Turn 6, the athlete managed to recover in the second race and finish in 14th place, scoring important points for his curriculum.

The Australian rider’s international experience was a determining factor in EAB Racing’s choice. With stints in the Asian Talent Cup between 2019 and 2020, followed by two seasons in the Red Bull Rookies Cup, Voight built a solid path before evolving to higher categories like JuniorGP, Moto3 and Moto2. This baggage will now be put at the service of the Belgian team starting from the Misano round.

About this new opportunity in his career, Harrison Voight didn’t hide his enthusiasm: ‘I am happy to be joining the EAB Racing Team and I’m really looking forward to making the start in the World Supersport Championship at Misano. Thanks to everyone who made this possible, I will do my best!’ Team Manager Pjotr Groenenberg explained the process that led to hiring the young talent: ‘After Cremona, we evaluated what and who we needed to complete the season successfully. That’s when we received the recommendation from Rob Vennegoor to get in touch with Australian rider Harrison Voight. We approached him, and he approved the opportunity with both hands.’

Groenenberg also highlighted the new rider’s potential, despite his age: ‘Even though he is only 19 years old, he already has a lot of experience and certainly has the potential to show something special. He has previously stepped in as a replacement rider in the World Supersport field in Australia. Alongside riding for our team, he is also competing in the FIM Moto2 European Championship.’ Voight’s double commitment demonstrates his determination to gain experience and evolve quickly in international competitions.

Can Oncu returned to winning ways in the Supersport World Championship by taking victory in Race 2 at Most, Czech Republic. The Turkish rider from the Yamaha BLU CRU Evan Bros squad not only secured his third win of the season but also clawed back valuable points on championship leader Stefano Manzi, who could only manage sixth.

After a disappointing weekend in Cremona, Oncu responded in style. He seized the lead off the line and, although briefly overtaken by Jaume Masia and Manzi, reclaimed the top spot with a stunning double overtake under braking at Turn 1. From there, he controlled the pace to take his 19th career podium and his first win since Assen.

Frenchman Lucas Mahias capitalised on others’ mistakes to secure second, claiming his second podium of the weekend. Philipp Oettl completed the rostrum with his best performance since returning to the championship. In contrast, Jaume Masia crashed out on Lap 12 while battling for the podium and left Most without scoring any points.

Manzi briefly led but saw his pace drop sharply in the final laps. The Italian only finished sixth and left Most with just 10 points — a disappointing haul for the title leader. Meanwhile, Marcel Schroetter equalled his best result of the season with another fourth place, and Valentin Debise recovered from his Race 1 DNF to take fifth.

Further down the order, Aldi Mahendra continued his impressive rookie campaign with a solid seventh-place finish – his sixth top-10 in a row. Corentin Perolari took eighth and was the top WorldSSP Challenge rider. Rounding out the top 10 were Tom Booth-Amos in ninth and Bo Bendsneyder in tenth, both missing out on a golden opportunity to make ground in the championship standings.

For the first time in his career, Jaume Masiá claimed a victory in the Supersport World Championship – prevailing in a closely fought race 1 in Most.

Pole position went to Lucas Mahias (GMT94 Yamaha), and in the opening laps the action was tight, with Stefano Manzi (Pata Yamaha Ten Kate) leading and the top five separated by less than a second. Among that group were also Masiá (Orelac Racing VerdNatura/Ducati) – coming from 15th on the grid – and Can Öncü (Yamaha bLU cRU Evan Bros).

A decisive moment came on lap seven, when Manzi crashed out while in the lead, handing the position to Mahias… before losing it to Öncü two laps later. The Frenchman would also be overtaken by Masiá.

From lap 14 onward, Öncü and Masiá began to break away at the front, with Mahias in a lonely third. But it wasn’t until the final moments of the last lap that Masiá completed the decisive overtake to win by 0.137s over Öncü. Lacking the pace to match the front pair, Mahias completed the podium 7.997s behind.

Marcel Schrötter (WRP Racing/Ducati) and Aldi Mahendra (Yamaha bLU cRU Evan Bros) rounded out the top five. After the crash, Manzi managed to rejoin the race, but was hopelessly delayed: he crossed the line in 26th. Nonetheless, he retains the championship lead.

Can Öncü was the fastest in the Supersport World Championship free practice in Most, held this morning at the Czech circuit. The track was wet, and the lap times were not representative.

The lead changed hands constantly throughout the session, with multiple riders topping the timesheets at various moments. It was on his final lap that Öncü (Yamaha bLU cRU Evan Bros) set the best time: 1m40.505s.

With that, the Turkish rider beat Lucas Mahias (GMT94 Yamaha) by 0.478s, followed by Valentin Debise (Renzi Corse/Ducati), who had led for several minutes in the early stages. The top five was completed by Jeremy Alcoba (Kawasaki) and Marcel Schrötter (WRP Racing/Ducati).

More than half the field failed to stay within 105 percent of the leader’s time, highlighting that this free practice session was not indicative of competitive pace due to the conditions. One of those riders was championship leader Stefano Manzi (Pata Yamaha Ten Kate), who finished 21st, 9.715s behind Öncü.

After a week-long break, the Superbike World Championship returns for the fifth round of the season, which will take place in Czechia at the Most circuit.

In the main category, WSBK, Nicolò Bulega (Aruba.it Ducati) won all races in Cremona about two weeks ago and extended his lead in the championship: he is now 34 points ahead of Toprak Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW).

While the Turkish rider will try to respond in order to stay within reach of another title, the Italian will naturally aim for another dominant performance. But they’re not alone in the fight for the top spots, with riders like Álvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Ducati), Andrea Locatelli (Pata Maxus Yamaha), or even Danilo Petrucci (Barni Spark Racing/Ducati), among others, always in contention.

In WSSP, Stefano Manzi (Pata Yamaha Ten Kate) has been dominating the championship and did so again at the last round with a double victory. He arrives at Most with a 44-point lead over Bo Bendsneyder (MV Agusta), making it unlikely he’ll lose the lead.

Tom Booth-Amos (PTR Triumph) sits third, already 51 points behind, with this trio maintaining control despite occasional podiums from their main chasers: Jaume Masiá (Orelac Racing VerdNatura/Ducati) and Can Öncü (Yamaha bLU cRU Evan Bros).

About a month later, WSSP300 returns for its third round of the season. So far, Jeffrey Buis (Freudenberg KTM Paligo Racing) has been the strongest, with three wins in the four races held. He leads the championship by 14 points over Julio García (Prodina Kawasaki), while Beñat Fernández (Team#109 Retro Traffic Kove) – the only one to have stopped Buis so far – sits third, 15 points off the lead.
