Eric Granado faces a long recovery period. The rider has undergone successful surgery on his right leg, which he injured at the MotoE French GP.

According to LCR E-Team, their rider was operated on the broken tibia at the Hospital Universitari Dexeus in Barcelona, by surgeon Ignacio Ginebreda.

Currently, Granado is being followed by specialist doctor Ángel Charte. There are no estimates yet regarding the recovery process, but it’s expected to be lengthly.

The Brazilian suffered injuries during the first race of the MotoE French GP last Saturday. He crashed and, while already on his feet in the run-off area, he was struck by the bike of Raffaele Fusco (Ongetta SIC58 Squadra Corse), who had fallen moments later.

The MotoE World Championship kicked off yesterday in Le Mans, with the morning race marred by an incident involving Eric Granado and Raffaele Fusco during race 1.

The first race of this French GP category had just started when, on the first lap, Granado lost control of his bike and fell, although he got up and could not have guessed that the worst was yet to come.

Granado had just gotten up from his accident and seconds later looked back when Fusco’s motorcycle, which had also fallen, was speeding along the gravel and ended up hitting the Brazilian without him being able to do anything to avoid it.

The result ended up being very negative for #51, who literally did a pirouette and fell, fracturing his tibia.

Enjoy the moment on video captured by DAZN, as you can see below:

Mattia Casadei clinched victory in Race 2 of the MotoE French GP in Le Mans. The reigning champion ends the opening round of the season at the top of the championship standings.

Óscar Gutiérrez (MSI Racing Team) got off to a strong start, taking the lead ahead of Andrea Mantovani (Klint Forward) in second and Kevin Zannoni (Power Electronics Aspar) in third.

However, at the start of the second lap, Gutiérrez crashed at the chicane and was subsequently struck by Alessandro Zaccone (Aruba Cloud MotoE). Fortunately, both riders escaped serious injury and were able to walk away, although Zaccone was taken to the medical center for evaluation.

Zannoni inherited the lead, while Casadei (LCR E-Team) – who had started from ninth – climbed to second place. Matteo Ferrari (Felo Gresini) was running third.

After a fierce battle, Casadei overtook Zannoni on lap four, just as Ferrari crashed out. Nicholas Spinelli (Rivacold Snipers Team) moved into third, followed closely by Jordi Torres (Power Electronics Aspar), who overtook Spinelli early in lap five.

Once in front, Casadei continued to feel pressure from Zannoni but eventually pulled away. He crossed the finish line with a 1.225-second lead. Torres secured third place despite late pressure from a surprising María Herrera (Klint Forward).

Spinelli slipped down to sixth, overtaken by Lorenzo Baldassarri (Dynavolt Intact GP), who completed the top five.

After one round, Casadei leads the championship by three points over Zannoni, with Mantovani third, seven points behind. Gutiérrez, the winner of Race 1, is now fourth overall, 11 points off the top.

It was almost impossible for Óscar Gutierrez to start the season with victory in the first race of the category at the French GP. Rich in incidents, the rider was always the clearest, with Eric Granado being hit by Raffaele Fusco’s bike, in an incident that led to a red flag and the race being cut short.

Everything was in place for the start of the MotoE race, the first of the year, with Le Mans hosting this season opener in almost perfect conditions.

Alessandro Zaccone started from pole position, with Eric Granado second and Oscar Gutierrez third.

The start saw Gutierrez in the spotlight, with the MSI Racing Team rider taking the lead straight away, with Granado second and Zaccone third. Andrea Mantovani was fourth and Lorenzo Baldassarri fifth.

Shortly afterwards, and still during the first lap, disaster struck Granado as he crashed, and in double figures: the Brazilian had just got up and was hit by the bike of Raffaele Fusco, who also went down in the same corner:

Unsurprisingly, after the incident at turns 9 and 10, the race was red-flagged. Granado was being carried off the track on a stretcher. Scary! The good news is that all the riders were conscious.

The eight-lap race was halved to eight laps, with the restart scheduled for 12.25pm local time. Fusco, meanwhile, was left out of the restart as his bike was unable to return to the track.

Meanwhile, it was confirmed that Granado was going to the circuit’s medical center to be seen by the organization’s medical team.

At the restart Gutierrez was fastest and gaining ground on Mantovani, Zaccone was third, Kevin Zannoni fourth and Baldassarri fifth.

On the following lap Matteo Ferrari, the category’s first champion, also confirmed his disastrous start to the championship by crashing, fortunately without gravity. The Italian lost the front of his bike at turn 10.

Mantovani was trying to get close to Gutierrez and set the fastest lap so far in the race, in 1:39.736s, and narrowed the gap to Gutierrez to 0.2s, but the #99 held firm and then increased his lead again to close to two-three tenths.

Tommaso Occhi also went down and ended his race prematurely.

The race ended shortly afterwards with Gutierrez confirming victory in dominating fashion at Le Mans, with Mantovani second and Zaccone third.

Alessandro Zaccone secured the first pole position of the MotoE World Championship season this Friday at the French GP. It is also the first pole position for Aruba Cloud MotoE.

Q1 determined the last two riders to qualify for the decisive phase of qualifying, joining the eight who advanced directly from practice. Matteo Ferrari (Felo Gresini) led almost from start to finish and came out on top, with Andrea Mantovani (Klint Forward) in second, 0.140s behind.

Nicholas Spinelli (Rivacold Snipers) missed out by finishing third, 0.129s off the rider ahead. The session ended under a red flag, caused by a crash involving Luca Bernardini (Aruba Cloud MotoE).

With the ten participants set, Q2 began. After the first flying laps, Óscar Gutiérrez (MSI Racing Team) held the lead, before being overtaken by Eric Granado (LCR E-Team). The Brazilian didn’t hold the top spot for long.

Less than ten seconds later, Zaccone (Aruba Cloud MotoE) set a new MotoE lap record at Le Mans: 1m39.545s. No one was able to beat it, securing him pole position. Granado was second, just nine thousandths behind.

The front row will be completed by Gutiérrez. Mattia Casadei (LCR E-Team) dominated the practice sessions, but a crash in qualifying prevented him from setting a flying lap, and he will start from tenth.

Eric Granado (LCR E-Team) led in the opening minutes before being overtaken by his teammate, Casadei. The Brazilian briefly returned to the top, but the Italian responded with the fastest ever MotoE lap at this circuit: 1m39.813s.

The start of the MotoE season did not go well for Héctor Garzó – who suffered a heavy crash in the first Practice session that rules him out of the rest of the French GP.

As the electric motorcycle category’s practice sessions are not televised, there is no footage of the crash. It occurred at Turn 9 in Le Mans with just over four minutes remaining, even causing a red flag.

Garzó (Dynavolt Intact GP) was taken to the circuit’s medical centre for examination, and from there transferred to a hospital. According to SPEEDWEEK.com, he sustained an injury to his right elbow.

The injury will require surgery to treat the damage. This is Garzó’s second injury of the year, having fractured his left thumb during testing in Barcelona about a month ago.

Mattia Casadei led the first Practice session of the MotoE French GP this morning, marking the start of the season in the electric motorcycle category. Héctor Garzó suffered a serious crash in a year where he is defending the title.

Matteo Ferrari (Felo Gresini) was leading after the first flying laps and, after being overtaken by Alessandro Zaccone (Aruba Cloudd MotoE), returned to the top of the timesheets.

But shortly after, Casadei (LCR E-Team) set the fastest time of 1m40.794s. With four minutes remaining, a red flag was brought out due to Garzó’s (Dynavolt Intact GP) crash – he was injured in a heavy fall and will miss the rest of this round.

Andrea Mantovani (Klint Forward) was second, 0.816s behind Casadei, followed by Ferrari and Jordi Torres (Power Electronics Aspar). The top five was completed by Zaccone, with Garzó in sixth thanks to a lap set before the crash.

The 2025 season of the FIM MotoE World Championship is about to begin, promising speed, innovation and intense rivalries. With seven rounds and 14 races on the calendar, this will be a decisive year for established names and emerging talents, all eyeing the most coveted trophy in electric two-wheeling.

Returning champions: the men to beat

The big focus is on Héctor Garzó (Dynavolt Intact GP MotoE), who wears the #1 jersey after winning the title in 2024. However, his preparation was marred by a crash on the first lap of testing, which resulted in a wrist injury. Despite this, Garzó hopes to be fully recovered for the first race of the season.

Also looking to make his mark is Mattia Casadei (LCR E-Team), champion in 2023 and runner-up in 2024, just 15 points behind Garzó. The Italian wants to win back his lost title. Jordi Torres (Aspar Team), the only two-time champion on the grid, is aiming to return to the top step of the podium in 2025. Matteo Ferrari (Felo Gresini MotoE), the 2019 champion, finished eighth in last year’s championship but topped the pre-season tests, showing that he is ready for a revival.

All of these names – with the exception of Garzó – have already won at the Le Mans circuit, the usual venue for the first battles of the championship.

Winners and veterans: is there room for new champions?

Oscar Gutierrez (MSI Racing Team) won three races in 2024 and is seen as one of the main contenders for the title this year, after a solid sixth place in the Barcelona tests. Kevin Zannoni (Aspar Team) was his direct rival last year, but both still have to deal with heavyweight opponents such as Alessandro Zaccone (Aruba Cloud MotoE Team), Eric Granado (LCR E-Team) and Nicholas Spinelli (Rivacold Snipers Team). The latter was a double winner at Le Mans last year and wants to repeat the feat.

Granado, who hasn’t won since 2023, knows his way around Le Mans, having triumphed there in 2021. Andrea Mantovani (Klint Forward Team) is also looking to return to the top, while his teammate Maria Herrera wants to ensure regular appearances in the top 10. Alessio Finello (Felo Gresini MotoE) was the only rider to score in every race in 2024 – a consistency he is now looking to turn into victories.

Luxury rookies: the names that want to surprise

Six new riders will make their MotoE debut in 2025, and all with respectable CVs. Italian Lorenzo Baldassari (Dynavolt Intact GP), a former winner in Moto2 and the World Supersport Championship, was the best rookie in the tests – both at single lap pace and in the race simulation.

He joins two other compatriots making their debut this year: Raffaele Fusco and Tommaso Occhi, both on the Ongetta SIC58 Squadra Corse team. Fusco has excelled in Italian national competitions, while Occhi was national champion in 2023.

The San Marino flag returns to the grid for the first time since 2020, thanks to the presence of Luca Bernardi (Aruba Cloud MotoE Team), ex-WorldSBK and podium finisher in the World Supersport Championship. And there are also historic national debuts: Hungary will be represented by Tibor Erik Varga (Rivacold Snipers Team), and Romania will have the young Jacopo Hosciuc (MSI Racing Team), winner of the Northern Talent Cup.

With six nationalities represented, a grid full of talent and only one world title at stake, the 2025 MotoE season promises electrifying races and a memorable spectacle at every turn.

Jake Dixon (Elf Marc VDS/Boscoscuro) is third and, after once again missing the podium in Jerez, now trails by 20 points.

José Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo) secured his third win of the season at the Spanish Moto3 GP, topping the standings with a four-point lead over Ángel Piqueras (Frinsa-MT Helmets-MSi/KTM). Regardless of results, neither will lose their current position: Joel Kelso (LevelUp-MTA/KTM) is third, 30 points behind Piqueras.
